Get creative with acrylic yarn in all the colours of the rainbow – and more

Acrylic is a synthetic material that's perfect for yarn. Acrylic yarn, also called polyacrylic yarn, is made up of polymers, which are lots and lots of tiny fibres joined together to form chains. This type of yarn is available in a variety of thicknesses, qualities, colours and threads.

The name polyacrylic yarn refers to the polymers from which the yarn is made. As acrylic yarn is a synthetic material, there are no limits to the colours it can be manufactured in. That’s why you’ll find a wealth of exciting yarn colours here in our webshop.

These include red and orange tones as well as shades of purple, blue, turquoise, green and yellow. We also stock colours such as brown, grey, black and white. In short, there's a colour to match every yarn project you could imagine.

Polyacrylic yarn is an exciting material to work with, and you can make a wide range of clothes and decorative items using this yarn type. You should be aware however that acrylic yarn often has a longer running length than other yarn materials. This is because it's such a lightweight material. So, even if you choose a ball of acrylic yarn of the same thickness as one of your other balls of yarn, you should expect to use different amounts of yarn.

Acrylic yarn is good for people who can't tolerate wool

Just because a material is natural doesn't mean it can't cause allergic reactions. You may be allergic to materials such as wool, in which case acrylic yarn is a good alternative.

As already mentioned, acrylic yarn is synthetically manufactured, but it's still a good material for people with allergies. This is a big plus if you want to knit, crochet or weave something for yourself or for someone you care about who can't tolerate wool.

If you, or the intended user of the items you're making, is sensitive to wool, you should look into whether the individual ball of yarn contains wool. As we sell yarn from mixed materials here at Creativ Company, it's a good idea to read the product information for the individual ball of yarn.

In general, however, you can expect the products selected for this page to be 100% acrylic. You can find balls of yarn made up of mixed materials in other areas of our webshop. For example, our XL balls of yarm made from a blend of acrylic and wool.

Get the whole family involved in creative pastimes

You're never too young or too old to make things using acrylic yarn or to be creative in general. When you’re creating something, it helps you to disconnect and de-stress. Whether you’re producing things in the morning, afternoon or evening, whether you're making your homemade creations on weekdays or weekends, creative pursuits are great for keeping your thoughts on other things. This allows you to relax completely, even if you keep your hands and head occupied.

Both adults and children of all ages can make things out of acrylic yarn. So you can get the whole family involved in crochet, knitting or weaving. If you and your family are all working with this type of yarn, there's nothing to stop you all from using the yarn in different ways. For example, you might want to crochet a shirt for yourself, while your child might want to sew yarn hair onto her homemade doll.

Acrylic yarn can be used for many different things and is suitable not only for people with allergies, but also for those who want to make an original piece of clothing or decorative items for their home.

So, what can you make from polyacrylic yarn?

As acrylic yarn is such a good all-round material, it can be used for many different purposes. Some examples of what you can do with polyacrylic yarn are clothes, hair for dolls, covers for cushions, blankets and winter clothes such as hats, beanies, scarves and gloves.

There are plenty of options for making quality, gorgeous-looking products out of polyacrylic yarn. Working with acrylic yarn also has many advantages, including the fact that the yarn is cheaper than other materials, that it's especially good at retaining heat and keeps its shape well.

However, there are also drawbacks to this type of yarn. While it’s great for people with wool allergies, you should be aware that acrylic can sometimes cause eczema. Acrylic is normally fine for machine washing, and many types of acrylic yarn can also handle tumble drying. To make sure you get the type of yarn you want, you can see more information about each ball of yarn by clicking on the product.

While there are many things that polyacrylic yarn is ideal for, there are also things that should not be made out of acrylic yarn. Polyacrylic yarn is not recommended for high temperatures. This makes it an unsuitable material for a pot holder. It's also generally not advised to wash acrylic at more than 40 degrees. In some cases, it's recommended that you wash at a max. temperature of 30 degrees, and some yarn is best washed by hand. Acrylic is not suitable for children and babies, as acrylic contains plastic.

We're crazy about acrylic yarn at Creativ Company

We're crazy about acrylic yarn. This is because it can be used for so many different things and also because it's hypoallergenic and durable. As acrylic yarn contains polymers made of plastic fibres, acrylic yarn  is easier to recycle than other materials.

In the past, acrylic yarn was known for being an itchy to the skin, and was therefore not seen as an ideal material for clothing and other coverings. This is different today, as new technology has made it possible to make acrylic yarns that are much softer. This gives acrylic yarn another advantage compared to wool. Unless you choose merino wool, you can easily risk your woollen yarn feeling itchy to the skin.

If you're hooked on the idea of producing things from acrylic yarn but don't quite know what to make yet, you can find inspiration here on our website. Check out our crochet, knitting and sewing page for lots of inspiration for making gorgeous pieces using acrylic yarn.
