Lanterns with punched-out leaves

Decorate these glass lanterns with autumn leaves punched out from tissue paper. When dry, add further details with a glass and porcelain marker. Finish by fixing the lantern in the oven.

1   Punch out leaves in different sizes from tissue paper in autumn colours using a craft punch set consisting of in three different sizes. A tip: in order to avoid the tissue paper getting stuck in the paper punch, place 8-10 sheets of tissue paper inside a folded piece of paper and punch out.

2   Remove the metal handle from the glass lantern. Wash the lantern to remove dust and grease. Apply decoupage lacquer for glass and porcelain onto the surface of the glass lantern using a flat brush. Work on one small area at a time and place the leaves onto the wet lacquer. Apply a coat of decoupage lacquer on top of each leaf. Leave to dry until the following day.

3   You may highlight some of the leaves with a black glass and porcelain marker. Leave to dry.

4   Fix the lantern in a pre-heated household oven (not a hot air or steam oven) at 160°C for 30 minutes.

5   Put the metal handle back on the glass lantern and decorate further with a bit of raffia as shown in the photo. Place an LED tea light inside the lantern for spreading autumn cosiness.
