Upcycling – wind chimes from plastic bucket

Use a recycled plastic bucket and beads on a string to make a colourful wind chime.

How to do it

Cut nine pieces of string, 5 x 45 cm and 4 x 40 cm.

Tie eight pieces of string (4 x 45 cm and 4 x 40 cm) with a double knot onto a ring.

Thread the beads onto the cords, leaving about 5 cm at the end – use these to tie a double knot around the last bead. Then cut the ends.

Make a hanging cord by tying both ends of the last piece of string with double knots onto the ring – and then tie an extra knot on the string close to the ring as shown in the picture.

Remove the handle from the bucket.

Dab paint onto the bucket until completely covered, and allow to dry for approximately 1 hour. If necessary, apply more layers for better coverage and allow the paint to dry between each layer.
