Shell dish and sculpture in black resin casting mix

Cast this lovely home decoration in beautiful shell moulds. The casting process is simple and straightforward. Mix the casting powder with water, add some gold leaf and pour the mixture into the mould. The results are sure to impress. The black colour becomes deep and intense – almost like a ceramic finish – and the gold leaf adds a touch of luxury.

How to do it
1 Place the leaf gold in the mould and press it down where desired in the casting.
2 Mix the black resin casting mix with water in a ratio of 1:4. You will need 200 g of casting powder and 50 g of water per mould.
3 Using several minutes to stir the mixture well before pouring it into the mould.
4 Tap the mould onto the table, lift the edge with your fingers and then release again. Do this all the way around for 4-5 minutes to remove all air bubbles from the mixture.
5 Also place a little leaf gold on the bottom before the casting compound hardens completely.
6 The casting compound hardens in 60-90 minutes and reaches full tensile strength after 24-48 hours.
7 Tilt the silicone mould off the casting.
8 Sand the edges around the bottom using a wet sanding sponge. Do not sand on the top because this will damage the nice smooth surface.
9 Clean the mould in warm soapy water with a sponge to avoid transferring colour to future castings.
