Decorated Candle Holders for Glass

1.   Cut the candle holder to the desired length.

2.   Bend the end to form a hook for the decoration.

3.   Adjust the other end of the candle holder to fit, hanging over the edge of the glass.

4.   Use a darning needle to thread a piece of striped cotton string through the star.

5.   Feed the needle back the same way through the star, creating a loop to use for hanging the decoration onto the hook at the end of the candle holder. Tie the two ends of the striped cotton string with a knot.

6.   A star folded from a paper star strip: Tie a knot at one end of the paper star strip.

7.   Gently tighten the knot and flatten it. This is now an equilateral pentagon.

8.   Tightly wrap the long end of the strip around the pentagon, whilst following the edge.

9.   Tuck the small end of the strip underneath to hide it.

10.   Continue wrapping the strip around the star until the right thickness is reached. Do not make it too thin. Make it thick enough for it to give a slight resistance when pressed firmly, while pushing the star into shape. The smaller the star, the shorter the strip. You may use the entire strip for the largest star.

11.   Cut off the strip close to the edge of the star.

12.   Fold the end of the strip underneath the folds to hide it.

13.   Push in all five sides using your thumb.

14.   When making the big star, it may be necessary to glue two of the edges in place.

15.   Use a needle to push a hole in the star for the piece of string for hanging.
