How to do it

Here is a tip to prevent the stencil from sliding: spray the back of the stencil with spray adhesive. Spray a thin layer from approx 25 cm distance. Leave to dry until the glue is tacky; i.e. the glue is sticky, but it no longer sticks to the fingers when you touch it.

Place the stencil on top of the box lid.

Dab off-white Plus Color craft paint onto the stencil with a sponge. Only put a VERY small amount of paint onto the sponge. Dab a small amount of paint several times rather than applying too much paint.

Remove the stencil and clean it in lukewarm water (the spray adhesive cannot be rinsed off).
